Who we are

Instituto A Mulherada is a non-profit civil society organization under private law, which had its origins in 2001 and was officially registered on August 16, 2002. Over its 23 years of operation, it has become a point of reference in the fight against domestic and family violence, in addition to standing out in promoting the integration of women in the artistic and cultural labor market and in other forms of encouraging entrepreneurship.

His recognition goes beyond borders, being highlighted not only nationally, but also internationally, when he participated in the 19th African Market Place & Cultural Faire in 2004, in Los Angeles, USA, where he promoted the development of the African diaspora through a presentation of his band of percussionists, invited by the William Grant Still Center.

The Institute's commitment is evident in its affirmative actions, which employ art, education and music for the social inclusion of young people from Salvador's needy communities, while facing issues of violence against cis, trans and transvestite black women, as well as women in situations of social vulnerability or domestic and family violence. Furthermore, the Institute actively combats homophobia, religious intolerance, racism and all forms of discrimination.

Through community dialogues, we seek to promote equality among women and discuss topics such as accessibility and human rights. Its objectives are clear and ambitious: to empower black adolescents, young people and women to face domestic violence, racial and gender discrimination and LGBTphobia.

To this end, it promotes social inclusion, reflection groups and preservation of African culture, using percussive music as a powerful tool to dialogue and combat abuses and violations of human rights.

The mission of Instituto A Mulherada is to respect diversity, recognizing the equality and uniqueness of each individual, and transform reality daily.

With this, it seeks to become a national reference in sociocultural actions to combat violence and discrimination, with values based on solidarity, sisterhood, honesty and mutual prosperity.

The Instituto A Mulherada hopes to expand and consolidate psychological, social and legal services for all women in vulnerable situations, in addition to growing the network of partners, volunteers and financiers.

A goal defined for the next two years is the acquisition of a property of its own, which will provide larger, more adequate and equipped facilities for the various courses and actions developed in the community of the Historic Center of Salvador. This initiative aims to strengthen and expand the activities of Instituto A Mulherada, allowing greater reach and impact in its empowerment and social inclusion initiatives. Obtaining your own space will offer opportunities for the development of more comprehensive and improved programs, providing a more welcoming and functional environment for the women served by the organization.

Furthermore, the consolidated physical presence in the Historic Center of Salvador will strengthen ties with the local community and reinforce the Institute's commitment to promoting well-being and gender equality in the region.
